Maintenance mode
Switch a site to a maintenance page in one click. Your team keeps working through SSH and the panel, and the IPs you allow in the firewall get straight past HTTP auth — the same list that guards SSH.
Maintenance mode, step by step
-
1
Switch it on
Every environment has a Maintenance switch in its header. Turning it on asks once, then applies straight away.
-
2
Visitors see a holding page
Search engines get a 503 with Retry-After, so rankings hold. Turn it off from the banner when you are done.
-
3
Some tasks use it for you
Magento’s setup:upgrade and turning on admin two-factor show the page while they run. It comes down when they finish.
Questions about maintenance mode
Not for a break of a few hours. Search engines get a 503 status with a Retry-After header, which tells them to come back later. They keep the pages they already have.
Not yet. Every site shows the same plain holding page, without branding. If your client needs to review work in progress, use a staging environment instead.
Per environment. Turning it on for production leaves staging and development as they are, and the other way round.
See maintenance mode on your own cluster
Tell us how many sites you run and on what. An engineer sizes a cluster with you and shows you the panel on a live one.
